Course Description: Integrated Physical Science/LA1

From murder mystery to wildfires, get ready to learn how chemistry connects other natural sciences, such as astronomy, physics, biology, and geology. Get ready learn how physics governs the natural sciences! You will build your skills as a scientist while you develop your language skills, increase your reading & writing levels. Prepare yourself to discover how chemistry is a common thread through the real-world in written and visual text. You will read novels and gain hands-on experience through lab work to spark your interest in scientific experimentation. Conservation of matter and energy will be emphasized to develop your understanding of how you interact with matter and energy in your surroundings. In the broadest sense, physical science is the study of matter and energy! Our goal for this year will be to strive to answer this question: What are the environmental consequences of wildfires on public lands and what are the possible solutions for prevention? We will try to think deeper and more critically than ever before. We will use safe practices and careful data collection. We will construct theoretical models and analyze solutions to problems. Everything we do will be directly related to our daily lives. Everything we do will have a purpose. You will make lasting connections to new knowledge through cooperative learning, inquiry based learning, research, and field studies.
