Course Description: World Literature A and B

Imagine seeing the world through different lenses, different types of sunglasses.  How would the world look in pink, red, brown, or blue? This course capitalizes on your expertize as an interpreter and analyzer of texts by introducing you to multiple “lenses” through which to read and view a text.  You will be asked to broaden your understanding and interpretive skills by thinking deeply about themes and ideas from multiple perspectives.  Using Historical, Cultural, Feminist, Marxist, and Archetypal criticism, you will learn to view texts through some of the filters that result in multiple interpretations of the same text or media story.  You will also apply the theories of criticism to your own reading and interpretation of both fiction and nonfiction texts. 2 trimester course
